Lawn tractor battery https://amzn.to/310OpVu
Today will be going to modify the terminal wires on my Sears lawn tractor so it will accommodate a regular car battery. The battery in this Sears tractor has been in it for many many years and has finally weakened enough so that will no longer take a charge or start the tractor. So today I’m going to use a battery I had to lay around that has some life left in it the only catch is it’s not designed for lawn tractor it’s a car battery. With that said it is a small car battery so with a few simple modifications I should be able to fit it in this Sears 18 hp lawn tractor. The main modification I had to make was with the terminal wires, the holes used to attach them to the battery with bolts were too small for the holes needed for the larger battery. So all I needed to do was to drill them out slightly to accommodate the larger bolt size needed to attach the car battery too. The terminal ends of the wire are copper was very soft metal and easy to drill and I had the modification made in no time at all. The battery terminals were on the opposite side needed in this case so I had to install the battery backward but luckily that ample room under the hood for this situation. I made sure that they would not slide back and hit any other metal components and that there was plenty of airflow in front of the battery as well. Once I had everything attached and the battery in the position I used a bungee cord to strap it down to help hold into position even though it did not appear to want to move much anyway.
