All right now this video is going to be A quick update of everything that's been Going on around here at lcnhq and the First thing we got to talk about are Spiders So I showed you how I keep these cleaned Out of my pool cage here in a video way Back on July 12th of last year now that Was six months ago and there's something I've learned that I really want to share With you and what that is is that in Southwest Florida you have to clean These out more often than once every six Months I mean just look at this build up These trash line spiders are literally Taking over so in case you missed it What I do is I take this big duster ball Here it's called a Webster and I taped Together three broom handles so that They're long enough that I can reach all The way around into the top of my pool Cage now what you'll find is is that as You wipe the spiders out they just end Up hanging off and they crawl right back Up and rebuild or if they're as bad as What I'm dealing with here when you're Done with a bunch of these guys they'll Be all inside of the Webster there and Then wherever you store it they just Release and start all over again and Take over so what I have is this PT Micro care bug spray here now you get Whatever bug spray you want and what I Do is I I hose down the Webster with
That first and now if they crawl back in They're crawling into certain Doom this Also does deposit some of the poison up Onto the screens and in the corners so If you did miss any they're also going To die but as I mentioned once every six Months twice a year it's not enough in 2023 I'm going to actually make this a Quarterly chore so I'll do it four times A year and that's how I'm going to keep These guys at Bay All right now let's talk about Florida Lawns real quick and what's going on Here as we're coming through winter in These last two cold blasts now you'll Remember the frost line that I talk About in Florida it's north of the I-4 Corridor and you all have Lawns up there That pretty much go dormant every year For at least a couple two three months Now south of this line we usually don't Go dormant unless it's a super cold year And then anywhere inside of that Corridor well it's kind of Hit or Miss Depending on the season I'm over here in Bradenton on a West Coast and just south Of that frost line and being a little Bit closer to the water it stays pretty Warm over here every year so let's look At how my lawn is holding up with these Last two coal blasts first let's take a Look at the Zoysia and you can see it's Got the tiger stripes from the cold now Bermuda is mostly known for this and
We're going to talk a little bit more About Bermuda in a minute but Zoysia Which has a very similar growth habit it Has rhizomes and stolens it kind of Reacts the same way however this Zoysia It does have a lot of wild Bermuda Scattered throughout and that Bermuda is For sure suffering from the cold in fact You can see here in my neighbor's lawn This is a huge patch of Bermuda that has Gone completely tiger striped from the Cold the little bit of Saint August that Is in here is still green but the Bermuda itself is checked out pretty Good All right so if your Zoysia got hammered Like mine's dress blend is perfect right Now potassium to help it a little bit of Nitrogen doesn't push it too hard and of Course it's got those nice Micronutrients so that's where we're at Now if you're currently dormant 100 you Got to wait until you're mowing again This is gonna I'm mowing this still Regular we're on the back warm up so I'm Good now my saint August is looking Pretty good I've kept it heavily Fertilized doing all those spreader Videos and testing over the last few Months if you look closely though you Will see there is wild Bermuda that's Invaded and has gone dormant revealing Itself I didn't even know these areas Were infested like this but the cold has
Revealed it now an interesting note for Those of you that have been around for a While I had the laundry sodded with Palmetto Saint Augustine in December of 2018 and here we are now five years Later and you can see there are small Patches of Bermuda throughout I also Have one big spot that's really been Taken over and that's where grubs hit me A couple years ago and the weakening of The Saint Augustine grass in those areas It allowed the Bermuda to be much more Opportunistic now there's a real lesson In that keeping your Saint Augustine Thick healthy and vigorous it can help Keep the Bermuda grass at Bay you'll see It does still invade but it doesn't get Near as bad because that Saint Augustine Is there to help fight it off however in An area where the Saint Augustine is not Vigorous bam that Bermuda it just takes Right over so remember that as you're Kind of going floor forward in your Florida lawn care Journey as well Grass one other thing I wanted to let You guys know is I've actually started Working on three project Lawns this Season I've got an old school St Augustine shaded lawn I've got a pro Vistalon that was decimated by insects Last year and then I have an old school A grass lawn that I just started working On two days ago the first step in that Lawn was prodiamine now all of us here
In Florida it's time for prodiamine Pre-emergent you can see all that brown Stuff there that's actually dead signal Grass the cold knocked it down for us And prodiamine is very good at Preventing future outbreaks of signal Grass now in a lot of areas signal grass Will live year round even though it Tries to be an annual so that's why a Good coal blast will knock it out for You and that's why it's a good idea to Get prediamine down right now to prevent Any future outbreaks now I have an email Newsletter that I'm going to link below That'll give you real-time tips for Florida Lawns it's just for Florida if Some of you are watching and you happen To be somewhere else in the country I do Have a general newsletter that got sent Out every single week with real-time Tips but for my Florida friends I have Something specifically for you kind of Makes sense since I live here I'll give You a link in the description below Lastly I wanted to show you what the Freedom Factory looks like I was just Over there this weekend fertilizing in Spring some weeds it has pretty much Checked out and gone dormant it is pro Vista St Augustine grass so it's it's Not as cold tolerant I tried to keep it Pushed as much as I could but the cold Air just swirls around in there in the Track and it just caused it all to
Drought and go dormant it's going to be Fine it's going to take a little bit Longer though for it to come out green And that's what I wanted to say any of You that have Pro Vista St Augustine Grass no matter where you are if it's Gone dormant I want you to be patient With it push it with nitrogen once you Start having to mow again push it with Nitrogen but it's going to be slower to Get going than the Floratam or Palmetto Or other St Augustine grasses around so Just be prepared for that it's going to Be brown longer if it did go dormant It'll be brown longer than the St Augustine grass everywhere else around You so with that I'm Alan Hayne the lawn Care nut thank you so much for watching Leave me your comments and questions Below and I'll see you in the lawn
